Aush’s “Why?”

I’ve always seen myself as average and anything that I achieved/accomplished above average was just God giving me something. I feel like I was born with a certain level of intelligence and athleticism and that I rarely did anything to maximize any of it.

There have been spurts here and there, but I’ve never really felt like I worked hard on something and stuck to it, and gave it my all and could step back and say to myself, “Man Aush you really did a great job there.”

More than anything I want to be able to say that to myself, “Aush, you did a great job there.” Â If other people say that (and they have for things in the past) it doesn’t hold the same weight. Because I know what kind of effort I REALLY put into things, how great could those things have been had I actually gave 100%?!

And sometimes things work out and I get credit but I don’t really ever feel I deserved it. I have a very hard time with compliments.

I know I have a fear of failure, but I think my fear of success might be bigger. I don’t mind putting myself out there to spotlight someone else, or to be the class clown.

But to put myself out there and be accountable to the world to follow through on something scares me.

So I’ve spent time soul searching and have come to realize a lot of my character defects that push me to not act or GET STUFF DONE (GSD).

And that’s really what I love the most about CrossFit San Diego and our Staff. You all push me, and have always been honest. I relish those moments, even if they hurt, or someone leaves, it always teaches a lesson far greater than the easy road.

My why for training then is that I get to help people destroy the lies they’ve been telling themselves for years. Just like the lies I struggled with about myself.

Lies that they are this or that (a failure), or will always be this (an outsider) or can’t be THAT (a SUCCESS).

When I think back on my time as a trainer, my greatest moments are when we or I personally have noticed the confidence changes in people, not necessarily exercise achievements or body composition changes, but just the way they carry themselves. Girls stop crossing their arms in front of their bellies to hide their fat (even if there is still some pudge there!). Guys who would never think about approaching someone who looked like a Greek God or Goddess before joining us, do it with ease now.

I love that!

And I feel it because I am right there with all of our clients in the process.

Emery’s “Why?”

I originally started getting certifications and coaching background to learn more and then I learned that I really enjoy helping people reach their fitness and health goals.

Whether it's instructing someone get their first muscle up, or giving a client the knowledge to change their nutrition, CrossFit is something that I'm passionate about and for me its always an amazing experience watching clients meet their goals.

Jason Muthig

Jason’s “Why?”

Well I really love the look on somebody’s face when they have that AH HA moment or that look they have when the hit a big PR, get their first muscle up or take a really big step forward. It is the look of pure joy, all the work they have put in coming to a head!

Also given my background of sports (editor’s note:Â Jason played high level soccer in Germany, he was just too humble to give deets) I really enjoy helping people realize they can go so much further than think they can. I know how important that is both inside and outside of a gym.

I like to think we make people better at life.

Bill Brooks

Bill's “Why?”

I started at Crossfit San Diego in 2011. I was introduced to crossfit from one of my best friends that kept bugging me to try it. It is now 2015 and I cant get enough. I have never done anything fitness related that gives me more results then Crossfit.

It has given me and now my entire family a healthier and fitter lifestyle. I have always been a coach at heart. I started coaching sports in my 20's. I have coached Roller Hockey, Baseball, Softball, flag football and now my favorite sport, Crossfit.

I wanted to become a Crossfit coach because I want to teach this great sport of functional fitness to others. There is nothing like it. Coaching someone and seeing him or her hit a PR or get past parallel on a squat for the first time is an awesome feeling. It is a honor for me to be able to coach others and teach then what I have been taught by my coaches.

Jackie Moncayo

​I have a love of sports and all that they encompass.

From the physical training, to being a trainer, to competition and programming. The human body and mind are such fascinating things. I have always played sports and been on competitive teams.

There is a bond that forms between athletes on a team and a bond that forms between athletes and their coaches, this is the closest bond, in my personal opinion, that we can form outside of family with other human beings.

Being a coach, and watching other people grow and progress in their physical strength and health is humbling and inspiring. I learn something new from every person I coach, and I become more inspired to constantly push the levels of my own fitness because of it.

Jeremiah Santini

I believe there is a warrior buried deep within all of us. It's my job to help members at CFSD tap into their true potential and develop a sound CrossFit skill set.

I enjoy watching the transformation that CFSD members experience, both mentally and physically over time. To watch people from all walks of life embrace the struggle, embrace the fight and reach for evolving goals is a beautiful experience!

Sarah Harris

I have been involved in sports and athletics my whole life; from volleyball, to Physical Training (PT) in the United States Army, to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, but nothing compares to CrossFit.

CrossFit is more than just a sport, it is a lifestyle. Each morning I wake up to coach, I wake up thankful that I get to do something I truly enjoy.

I get to coach some of the most amazing people in San Diego, from the “early birds” at 5:00am to the ladies at 7:00am. Being able to be apart of an athlete’s journey toward becoming more physically and mentally fit is an experience like no other.

I love being a coach, it is a title and role I am extremely proud of.
