Eric found out about CrossFit in the fall of 2007 while deployed to Iraq.
Having previously done nothing but standard lifting and cardio splits, he
found himself struggling when he and some friends gave the 300 Workout a
shot. One of the Recon-types assigned to the same base saw what they were
doing and forwarded them a few links containing the Girls and Heroes WODs.
For the duration of the deployment Eric and his friends mixed in some WODs
here and there with the limited equipment they had on hand. Following their
battalion's return to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Eric began training at
CrossFit Oahu where he was fully introduced to the CrossFit method and its
basic movements. He quickly realized that he had been going about training
and nutrition all wrong for the previous dozen or so years, and saw rapid
gains in all measurable categories once he started combining CrossFit and
Zone/Paleo eating. Eric saw how well CrossFit translated over to the
physical and mental demands of an infantry Marine and tried to convert as
many of fellow Marines as possible over to the CrossFit methodology.

After receiving orders to MCRD San Diego in July 2008, Eric began training
at CFSD and completed his Level I certification at CrossFit Marina in
October 2008. He is a huge believer in CrossFit's ability to change your
whole life by improving your all-around health, increasing your capacity to
complete everyday tasks, and making you physically and mentally tougher. He
also enjoys the community aspect brought on by group classes, personalized
instruction, and shared suffering through WODs, having been a part of two
outstanding groups of members at CrossFit Oahu and CFSD.
While plenty of military, police, firefighters, and competitive athletes
have adopted CrossFit for their strength and conditioning, Eric would like
to emphasize that it can be adapted to clients of ANY fitness and experience
level as long as they have the desire to improve themselves
