I’m Mickey Ledford, a wife, mother of two small children, and certified CrossFit trainer. When I was younger, I was always active and didn’t have to worry about my weight or my fitness. After having kids, and a husband who was frequently gone, I found it hard to stay in shape. Then, one day at the pool, I saw a friend who had been doing CrossFit, and she looked amazing. I went home, logged on to CrossFitSanDiego.com, watched the “Nasty Girls” video, and was sold. I knew I couldn’t do what Annie, Nicole and Eva were doing, but I also knew that I could if I tried.
Now, I had given birth to twins three months before, and I’m sad to say, was in the sorriest shape of my life. Nevertheless, I got on my bike, went around the corner to Lisa’s house, and signed up for my introductory sessions to start the next day.
CrossFit was the hardest workout I had ever done, and I have to say, it was love at first pain. I love CrossFit. I love the pain of the sore muscles. I love the challenge of different workouts and workout combinations. I love the competitive atmosphere (even if it’s all in my head!). I love the people and the athletic ability they all possess—whether it’s their first time working out, getting their body back after child birth, or just improving on their existing fitness. I love it when people who haven’t seen me since I was pregnant see the difference and are amazed. I love that I can do pull-ups; that I can deadlift almost two times my body weight; that I am a lot stronger than I look. Last, I love helping other people achieve their goals.
